Nine faces from the book, ready to cut out. When a child cannot find the words yet, they can point instead.

How to use them

  1. Print page one on plain paper, or on thin card if you want them to last. Cut along the dashed lines.
  2. Keep the nine cards somewhere your child can reach without asking: a jar on the table, a pocket by the door.
  3. When a big feeling arrives, put the cards down and let them point. No talking required yet.
  4. Print page two whenever they want to color a set of their own.

The nine feelings

The same nine Capy shows in the book. Pointing is easier than talking when a child is already upset.

The book these cards came from

In Capy’s Big Red Wave, Capy’s careful stone tower comes down and the anger arrives faster than he can think. His mama does not tell him to calm down. She sits beside him and breathes, until the wave passes and the tower can be built again.
