An illustrated story about the floppy feeling that comes when a plan you were counting on does not happen. Papa and Capy have the kite all ready for the meadow hill, but in the morning rain is tapping on the window. Papa does not promise sunshine or hurry the feeling away: he sits close, names it, says he feels disappointed too, and lets Capy pick what to do while they wait for the next dry day.
26 pages, written for ages 3 to 7. Instant download in three editions, plus a free set of printable feelings cards.
Disappointment is the floppy, heavy feeling when something you were looking forward to does not happen. Capy feels it at the window: the kite is ready, the plan was the meadow hill, and rain is tapping on the glass. His ears droop, his shoulders slump, and he says it in a small voice: I feel floppy, like a kite with no wind. Then he flops onto the rug and cries that the whole day is ruined.
Papa does not promise sunshine, and he does not tell Capy to cheer up. He sits down right beside him, names the feeling, “You feel disappointed,” and says he feels disappointed too. Then he offers two simple choices, and Capy picks one: tying bright new tails on the kite for the next dry day. A child who has watched that has a short phrase to reach for when plans change: Oh well, maybe next time. And next time, the kite flies high.
All three book editions are full-color RGB PDFs of the same 26 pages, delivered the moment the order completes. Nothing ships.
Parents, carers and early-years teachers reading aloud to children roughly 3 to 7 years old, and dads and grandpas looking for a read-aloud of their own. It fits rainy days, cancelled outings and any turn that has to wait. Short sentences over full watercolor pages, a Let’s Talk page with four simple questions, and Capy’s Calm-Down Steps at the end: say “I feel disappointed,” say “Oh well, maybe next time,” and pick one of two things to do now.
This is Book 5, the final book of A Capy’s Feelings Book. Book 1, Capy’s Big Red Wave, is about anger. Book 2, Capy’s Fluttery Tummy, is about worry. Book 3, Capy’s Heavy Paws, is about sadness. Book 4, Capy’s Special Five Minutes, is about jealousy. See the whole series.
